ISAF Racing Rules of Sailing 2013-2016


Sailing on the 29nd of December started off with very light winds, building to a steady breeze there were 6 skippers, five finished the day in the following order
Brian Mc, John S, Tony L, Pat D, Garth W .

The sun shone all day.Tthanks Chris for bringing down the Buoyancy aid that he has given the club and Tony M for helping with the rescue boat.

The Twenty-Eighth One Metre race was held on
the 22nd of December but was eventually abandoned due to the high winds whipping up the waves
A real No 3 Rig was required, Otherwise a nice Sunny afternoon


The Twenty-Seventh One Metre race was held on 15th December.
Prizes today were 2 bottles of wine donated by Peter Constable. Who also kindly acted as Race Officer, thanks Peter
Rain showers dominated the day and everyone was using the No 2 Rig due to high winds.
We started with nine Skippers in attendance but racing there were eventually only four.
To keep out of the rain & cold wind we sailed standing under the Southern shelter.

The Twenty-Sixth One Metre race was held on 24th November.
A cool (not cold) day and very sunny.
The Racing Course had the usual gate but initially there were only five skippers.
It was decided not to score but in hindsight we ended up with eight skippers.


The Twenty-Fifth One Metre race was held on 10th November.
Racing started with Top Suit and soon everyone changed down to 2nd Suit.
Using Storm suit proved to be marginally worse than 2nd Suit.
Otherwise a Sunny day but the wind was very cold.

The 9th Fiesta race was held on 3rd November 2013
A very windy day creating heavy waves which limited the racing. On the good side it was otherwise a nice sunny day.

The Twenty-Fourth One Metre race to be held on 27th October 2013 was cancelled.
This was due to winds of 21 Knots at 09:00 and rising to 31 Knots at 12:00 hours. Seven disappointed skippers went home.


The Twenty-Third One Metre race was held on 20th October 2013.
After a heavy downpour at 08:45 the overcast cloud disappeared for the rest of the day.
With the wind gusting up to 24 mph the 3rd suite of sails were required.

The Twenty-Second One Metre race was held on 13th October 2013.
A lovely wet day - Used existing Watersports buoy's for course and operated from hut veranda for cover.

The 8th Fiesta race was held on 6th October 2013
This was for the Rose Bowl Trophy
Hardly any wind initially but picked up later. A good warm & sunny days racing.

The Twenty-First One Metre race was held on 29th September 2013.
Variable wind conditions and a nice long course.

The Twentieth One Metre race was held on 22nd September 2013.
The wind was very light, eventually so light that there were many boats just sitting on the water waiting for any wind.
No gates this meeting. Welcome back to Melvyn.

The Nineteenth One Metre race was held on 15th September 2013.
The gale force winds promised arrived on schedule and the first race was abandoned allowing everyone to change down into 2nd suite.
The wind gained strength and after Race 5 those remaining were on storm sails.

The 7th Fiesta race was held on 8th September 2013
A good days racing with steadily increasing winds.
Rain stopped just before course was set and started again as we departed.

The Seventeenth One Metre race was held on 25th August.
Good winds, rain & thunderstorms forcast but a lovely sunny day.

The 6th Fiesta Race due on 18th August was cancelled due Adverse Weather.


The Sixteenth One Metre race was for the Carnarvon Shield
This was held on 11th August.
Winds very variable and a couple of showers in the morning followed by a hot sunny afternoon.

The Fifteenth One Metre race of 2013 was held on 4th August.
The full width and available length of the Lagoon was used to produce a good days racing.

The Fourteenth One Metre race of 2013 was held on 28th July.
The wind conditions mean't most Skippers moved down to the 2nd suit, otherwise a good days racing.

A very hot Sunny day with variable course changes due to wind shifts.

The weather was sunny & hot with medium winds.

The Twelfth One Metre race of 2013 was held on 7th July and was for the Rose Bowl Trophy.
A hot Sunny day with a 5/6 mph North Easterly wind.

The Eleventh One Metre race of 2013 was held on 30th June.
Weather forecasted as a Sunny day but the sea mist came down at 11:00 and stayed for the rest of the day

The Tenth One Metre race of 2013 was held on 23rd June.
An overcast day with winds requiring 2nd Suit. Choppy water and lunch break taken during the one rain shower.
Unusually low Skipper Turn-out.

The 4th Fiesta race was held on 16th June 2013
This Trophy Race was for the brass Scale-Sail yacht presented by Rob Ransom.
The weather was overcast with a few light showers.

The Ninth One Metre race of 2013 was held on 9th June.
An overcast day with variable winds and choppy water.

The Eighth One Metre race of 2013 was held on 2nd June.
This was a Trophy race celebrating the 60th Anniversary of the Queens Coronation.
A sunny day starting with a Northerly but variable wind.

The Seventh One Metre race of 2013 was held on 26th May.
A sunny day starting with a North Westerly wind and later requiring course changes.

The 3rd Fiesta race was held on 19th May 2013
The weather was overcast with a strong north easterly wind to start with and then requiring a course change later in the day

The Sixth One Metre race of 2013 was held on 12th May.
This was for the TANSLEY CUP.
A very windy day requiring the No2 (B) Rig. Although sunny the wind was cold.
Launching and retrieving boats was the most difficult operation.
Two boats retired due to the conditions and there were a couple of unavoidable collisions.
Albeit an enjoyable day.

The Fifth One Metre race of 2013 was held 5th May.
A sunny day with a variable strength South Westerly Breeze requiring a few course changes
Again well matched with tight racing around the marks.

The Fourth One Metre race of 2013 was held 28th April.
A sunny day with a South Easterly Breeze.
Very well matched and tight racing around the marks.
To have a fair result we needed 20 races to balance the results with one Skipper off each race.
Therefore only the first 10 races could be used for a fair result.

The planned 2nd Fiesta Race was held on 21st April 2013
This was a glorious Sunny day with about a 10 mph Southerly but variable breeze.

The Third One Metre race of 2013 was held on 7th April for the Derek Norfolk Cup
A great sunny day but cold with an Easterly Breeze. Very well matched racing with particularly close finishes.

Second One Metre race of 2013 was held on the 31st March.
The water level was low; again about 4 inches lower than normal.
The day started with sunshine and a light wind which increased in strength during the day.

The First Fiesta Race was cancelled due to no Lagoon Water due Watersports reworking their Layout


The 3rd One Metre Race on 17th March was cancelled due low water level and Watersports still reworking their layout.


10th March - The 3rd One Metre Race was cancelled due Watersports draining Lagoon without prior agreement. Windy day, no rain, 5 degrees C.
The pump is controlled by the seafront office, but Watersports requested draining to rework layout as Planning Application. Watersports confirmed Lagoon won't be filled in time for the 17th but confirmed should be good for the 24th March. Watersports stated "In hindsight we should have communicated the plans with you, but it was originally going to be all sorted in February"


There was no Sailing During February due adverse weather


The First One Metre race of 2013 was held on the 6th January.
This was the first time we had sufficient water in January to sail - albeit about 4 inches lower than normal.
There were actually eleven races but the last two were not scored, thus only nine races shown.
Day started cold but warmed up with great winter Sunshine.
